Adidas, The Hemp, 1996.

Hemp Sneakers

In 1996, the Clinton administration wanted Adidas to change the name of its new shoe – the Hemp – because the word was also street slang for marijuana. The company responded: “No one’s smoking our shoes”. Adidas continues to produce sustainable sneakers made with hemp fibre.
