The museum reveals how cannabis, the world’s most versatile plant, has contributed to the development of medicine, art, music, textiles, exploration, and more. The museum, in a vibrant part of Amsterdam’s city centre, showcases the highlights of a collection of over 9,000 cannabis artefacts, houses a cannabis garden with live plants, and features an interactive vaporizer exhibition.
Cannabis entrepreneur Ben Dronkers founded the museum at the original location in 1987. Nowadays the Amsterdam museum consists of two complementary sites within walking distance of each other.
A second venue, on the same canal, was added in 2009 to display even more of the museum’s unique collection. The Hemp Gallery is dedicated to the long history and wider uses of the hemp plant. From paper and sails, to food, plastics, high fashion and design.
In the Hemp Gallery you can discover how useful hemp is, and its potential for giving us a sustainable future.
