Hemp and flax
Young children of the French Republic could learn about cannabis, or “the plant of a thousand uses”, through this educational drawing made by naturalist Émile Deyrolle (1838-1917). Hemp and flax are shown with their best-known products, such as a napkin, a bib, a dress, a shirt and a rope. In the industrial hemp room of our museum in Barcelona you can see the mural plate translated into Spanish, for teaching botany in Spain.
