Grandma Haru
The documentary film Grandma Haru and Hemp Cloth records village life in Harihata from 1991 to 1999, following the year-round work of growing hemp and making hassyaku bukuro, a bag made from hemp to carry horse chestnuts from the mountains to the town. Filmmaker Marutani Akira hopes this film helps us to reconsider the conditions of our modern urban environment, in which we have become isolated from nature and hemp.
