Legalise Pot Rally

Mike McInnerney designed this poster for the first cannabis rally in London in 1967. According to the artist himself, the amorphous and melting forms of the poster attempt to illustrate the liquid state of being high. At the bottom and in colder colours you can see fairies and an Icarus figure rising towards the heat of a sun god. The pictorial journey from bottom to top represents the different states of drug experience, from mild-tripping to mind-blowing. It is an attempt to illustrate the cautionary statements of the Indian guru Meher Baba on drug taking, described in the pamphlet “God in a Pill?”

Many of the images on the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum website are available for reproduction. Please contact us for more information.
