The year 2012 marks a milestone in the history of the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum in Amsterdam. The museum reopened on April 26th, completely renovated and refurbished.
The Museum Gallery was also completely refreshed. The history of hash, marijuana and hemp can be seen, explored and experienced as never before in these two complementary venues!
Former Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare and Culture, Hedy d’Ancona officially opened the museum with a frank speech; cannabis has long been a source of enjoyment for her. D'Ancona praised the courageous work of Thorvald Stoltenberg. During her ministry she became very familiar with the rigid Scandinavian beliefs about drugs. "You are nothing less than a true hero, Mr. Stoltenberg," said d'Ancona, under the attentive gaze of her husband Aad Veldhoen.
With loud applause from the audience, she expressed the hope that politicians will finally understand that only one party has an interest in the prohibition of cannabis: the international mafia. "And long live freedom!"
Among those present were cultivation guru Ed Rosenthal, who founded the museum in 1986 with Ben Dronkers; Nicole Maalsté, cannabis activist Todd McCormick, Egbert Tellegen, Bulldog founder Henk de Vries, Mila Jansen and Henk Poncin, VOC-president and founder of the Cannabis College.
