“Hemp: Back to the Future”
World Cannabis Conferences – Spannabis Barcelona
Saturday, 11 March 2017, at 1.30 p.m.
For the World Cannabis Conferences during Spannabis, Ana Rodríguez, manager of the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum in Barcelona, has invited two hemp experts, Alan Dronkers and Annelieke de Haart, to delve into the past, present and future of hemp, one of the oldest agricultural crops on earth. Starting from their extensive experience in the hemp industry, each specialist will give an introduction about their experience with the plant in the 1990s and now. Afterwards these connoisseurs will be asked some challenging questions by the moderator, in search for valuable insights into the future potential of industrial hemp. The public is invited to participate in the discussion.
Alan Dronkers (The Netherlands/Thailand)
Responsible for the first breeding programs of Sensi Seeds (www.sensiseeds.com), he possesses an enormous wealth of knowledge about cannabis genetics. He is also an expert in the history and use of the plant, having helped to reintroduce hemp in Holland and currently being involved in the comeback of hemp in Thailand.
Annelieke de Haart (The Netherlands)
Quality control manager at HempFlax, a company in the north of the Netherlands dedicated to the cultivation and processing of industrial hemp (www.hempflax.com). In 2015, HempFlax opened a second factory in Romania, a successful on-going bid to revive the once-thriving hemp industry in Europe.
Ana Rodríguez (Spain)
Art historian and manager of the Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum in Barcelona (www.hashmuseum.com), where visitors can discover in detail how hemp was cultivated, harvested and processed in the past, as well as the many ways in which the plant has provided the raw material for all sort of products.
